Functional Capacity Assessments
Conducted by an Occupational Therapist, Functional Capacity Assessments focus on identifying a person's strengths, challenges, and support needs in various aspects of life. This thorough evaluation helps in crafting personalised support plans that empower individuals to unlock their full potential and navigate life with confidence.
An FCA is a versatile tool designed to support you in various situations throughout your journey with the NDIS. You may need an FCA for several reasons, such as gaining initial access to the NDIS, demonstrating how your condition impacts your daily function, and guiding the implementation of your funding. It is also invaluable when preparing for your annual plan review to ensure all necessary supports are well documented. Additionally, an FCA can help address changes in your circumstances, signaling the need to adjust the way you are supported by the NDIS. It can also facilitate specialised funding for supports like Supported Independent Living (SIL), Specialist Disability Accommodation (SDA), or Individualised Living Options (ILO).
We believe that a comprehensive assessment should occur wherever life happens - in your home, day program, workplace or local community. This allows us to thoroughly understand your individual needs, daily tasks, and the level and frequency of supports you may require. We engage and collaborate with other parties (with your consent, of course!), and use standardised assessment tools to ensure a holistic assessment and reporting process. Our reports are comprehensive, yet succinct, clearly evidencing the impact on function, required supports and recommendations to build your capacity.
Getting an FCA offers numerous benefits, such as discovering ways to enhance safety and mobility, which can lead to greater independence, confidence, and enjoyment of life. It also provides insights into products and services that can simplify and enrich your daily routine while identifying opportunities for capacity building to boost everyday engagement. Additionally, an FCA helps gather valuable information about eligibility for supports, including specialist disability accommodation options and services like gardening or cleaning.
Assistive
Technology

AT can greatly enhance your daily life by improving safety, mobility and overall functionality. We tailor solutions to fit your specific needs and lifestyle. From voice-activated technology, aids in the kitchen to a powered wheelchair or complex technology, we look at how these tools can be integrated into your day-to-day activities to boost your independence and confidence. Our goal is to ensure you have the right tools to navigate your life effectively and enjoy a higher quality of life.
We will come to you - whether it's your home, community or workplace. We work alongside you to find the perfect AT that fits your lifestyle and meets your needs right where you use it. We will consider many things, including any challenges you're facing, what you enjoy but may find difficult to complete, how the environment is set up, how we can enhance usability, any safety improvements and how the item can integrate into your current life. Following a thorough assessment of your needs, your therapist will arrange for trials of the possible AT solutions. This is to ensure the item is suitable and ticks every box! Our trials guarantee that an item will be effective both now and in the future.
Once your AT assessment and trials are complete, your therapist will provide you with an anticipated timeline for when to expect your AT item. This timeline can vary depending on the type of items, the approval process, and how quickly they can be sourced. Some AT products may be considered high-risk or high-cost and require in-depth reporting and analysis for approval by the NDIS. On the other hand, smaller, low-cost items may be able to be purchased immediately!Rest assured; your therapists are here to guide you through the entire process. We will assist with obtaining the necessary approvals and provide training on setting up and using your AT item correctly to make sure you get the most out of it.

Driving
Assessments
We know that driving is vital for maintaining your independence and community connection, so we're committed to helping you drive safely, for as long as possible.
An OT driving assessment can be highly beneficial for a variety of individuals, including those with physical, cognitive, or other impairments that may impact their driving. It is particularly helpful for young people living with a disability who are eager to learn to drive, as well as for individuals recovering from an injury or trauma related to road accidents and feeling anxious about returning to driving. Elderly drivers who have been advised by the Department of Transport to undergo an OT assessment can also benefit, as can anyone uncertain about their ability to continue driving safely.
An OT driving assessment is designed to ensure your safety and confidence behind the wheel. The assessment consists of two components. First the off-road component includes an interview and assessment to evaluate your physical and cognitive abilities, as well as a vision screening. Then, the on-road component involves driving with both the therapist and a qualified driving instructor. We'll evaluate any medical or physical conditions that might impact your driving and provide tailored recommendations to help ensure your safety.
Following the assessment, we may recommend vehicle modifications to enhance your driving performance and confidence, as well as safety strategies such as driving only during the daytime or within a short distance from home. We might also suggest ongoing management and monitoring to support and track your driving ability, along with driving lessons to improve your skills and safety on the road.
